Our Story

Who we are
Kindness Cafe (formerly Courthouse Community Centre) is a cornerstone of compassion and community in Kennington, South London. Founded in 1999 and based in the historic Old Courthouse, we’ve spent over two decades creating spaces that bring people together, fostering connection and a shared spirit of kindness.
We’re more than the cafe you might imagine. We don’t have fancy espresso machines — instead, we offer a simple, welcoming space where people can pause, share, and feel held.
Kindness Cafe is a project of Jamyang Buddhist Centre (though secular in nature) and grew from a wish to bring neighbours, local communities and students together in a gentle, inclusive space. We invite you to join us: for food, for activities, for connection.
Our Values
We believe in the power of kindness, inclusivity, and connection. Our work is guided by a commitment to nurturing meaningful relationships, embracing diversity, and creating a nourishing space for all who step through our doors.
Our Mission
Rooted in kindness, our mission is to enrich lives through community-focused events and activities that inspire, connect, and empower. In creating opportunities for shared experiences and compassionate action, we aim to build a stronger, more vibrant local community.
